Kent VW Festival & Scooter Show moved to a new venue
this year (Folkestone Racecourse) after parting company with Chilli Farm and its
steam rally. As you may have noticed the show also changed its name slightly so
it could include some old Lambretta’s and Vespas. I personally think it was a
good move as I don’t know many dubbers that are into traction engines and it
gave the show more of a festival vibe rather than a country fair! I believe
others felt the same as it looked like numbers attending were very much up on
last year.
The site was a bit churned up to say the least due to bad
weather at the previous weeks War and Peace revival, I’m sure that tanks and
other military vehicles mixed with mud would be fun but it left the fields in a
bit of a mess!
Luckily the weather leading up to the event was hot and dry
so there was no need for the tanks remaining on site to drag out any stranded
VW’s.
There was lots of great entertainment this year from Ska,
Northern Soul and a Beatles tribute band for the Scooterists to old skool rave courtesy
of DJ Slipmatt who had the main tent making shapes like it was ’91 all over again.
Saturday saw the scooter show n shine with a beautifully
restored Lambretta from 1956 and Sunday saw the VW show n shine with ratty
splits, hotrods and immaculate type 3’s.
Great show and well re-invented.
